Subject:SES Light due to DTC P0017 and No Engine Performance Concerns

Models:2006 Chevrolet Colorado
2006 GMC Canyon
with 2.8L Engine (VIN 8 - RPO LK5)



The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

On rare occasions, a SES light and no engine performance concerns may be experienced due to a P0017 DTC. This concern may occur at any mileage range, even if the CKP sensor has never been removed during previous repairs.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for this concern, remove the CKP sensor and inspect the inner O-Ring for damage. If the O-Ring is damaged, replace the CKP sensor and re-evaluate the concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
