Creak In Rear Of Vehicle (Install Rivets)

This bulletin is being revised to update the Parts Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-08-66-009 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Some customers may comment about a creak from the left rear when going over slow bumps such as entering a driveway. This creak may also be heard on hard acceleration and when braking.

1. Remove the rear liftgate sill plate by pulling it from the floor of the vehicle.



2. Center punch the floor pan on both the right and left side. Refer to the illustration above for hole locations.
3. Drill four 6.35 mm (¼ in) holes each for the right and left sides.
4. Remove any sheet metal shavings.
5. Touch-up the drilled holes as necessary using the information found in the applicable Service Manual and GM Refinish Material Booklet #4901M-D-2004 (English) or #4901M-D-F2004 (French).
6. Install the rivets.
7. Reinstall the rear liftgate sill plate.
