Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation

DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the rear wiper operates normally but will not return to the park position when the rear wiper operation is cancelled.

Did you review the Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Verify that the rear wiper will not park when the wiper operation is cancelled.

Does the rear wiper park?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor connector. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Test for ignition positive supply voltage at the rear wiper motor connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
  2. Test for a high resistance or an open condition between cavity 4 of the rear wiper motor connector and cavity 5 of the rear wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

With the rear wiper/washer switch still disconnected:

  1. Make sure the wiper switch is in the Off position.
  2. Test for a high resistance or an open condition between cavity 4 and cavity 5 of the rear wiper/washer switch.

Did you measure a high resistance or an open condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
