Removal Procedure
- Raise
and suitably support the hood.
- Remove the 2 bolts (2) and the hood primary latch
(1) from the front upper panel.
- Remove the hood primary latch release cable from the hood primary latch (1).
- Unclip
the hood primary latch release cable from the hold down clips.
- Disconnect the hood primary latch release cable grommet from the body
- Remove the hood primary latch release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Attach a piece of mechanic's wire (1) to the hood primary latch
release cable (2) in order to aid in the removal and the installation of
the release cable.
- Pull the hood primary latch release cable through the body.
- Remove the hood primary latch release cable from the vehicle by pulling
the cable from outside the engine compartment.
Important: The mechanic's wire should remain strung through the body in order to ease
the installation of the hood latch release cable (2).
- Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the release cable (2).
Installation Procedure
- Attach
the mechanic's wire (1) to the hood primary latch release cable (2).
- Guide the hood primary latch release cable through the body with the
mechanic's wire.
- Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the hood primary latch release
cable (2).
- Install the hood primary latch release cable grommet to the body, making
sure the grommet is seated.
- Install the hood primary latch release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Install the hood primary latch release cable to the hold down clips.
- Install
the hood primary latch release cable to the hood primary latch (1).
- Install the hood primary latch (1) to the front upper panel. Secure
the latch with the 2 retaining bolts. Do not fully tighten the bolts.
- Adjust the hood primary latch (1) in order to ensure that the
striker shaft lines up with the center groove of the hood primary latch (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Adjust the hood primary latch (1) in order to ensure that the hood is
flush with the front fenders. Refer to
Body Front End Adjustment Specifications
.
Tighten
Tighten the hood latch retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in)
- Lower the hood.
