Did you review the Power Windows Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify that the left front power window is inoperative.

Is the left front power window inoperative?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Test for battery voltage at terminal 11 of the master window switch with the switch in the UP position.
  3. Test for battery voltage at terminal 10 of the master window switch with the switch in the DOWN position.

Is battery voltage present in both tests?

Go to Step 4

  1. Test for an open in the YEL wire between the left front window switch and the left front window regulator.
  2. Test for an open in the RED wire between the master window switch and the left front window regulator.

Did you test an open condition?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the left front window regulator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the master window switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the right front window inoperative?

Is the right front window inoperative from the right front window switch only?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Backprobe the right front window switch connector with a test lamp between terminal 3 and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Backprobe the right front window switch with a test lamp between terminal 1 and ground.
  3. Operate the master window switch to the UP position and observe the test lamp.
  4. Backprobe the right front window switch with a test lamp between terminal 4 and ground.
  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Backprobe the master window switch with a test lamp between terminal 7 and ground.
  3. Operate the master window switch to the UP position and observe the test lamp.
  4. Backprobe the master window switch with a test lamp between terminal 6 and ground.
  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

  1. Test for an open condition through the right front window switch terminals 4 and 5 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  2. Test for an open condition through the right front window switch terminals 1 and 2 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  3. Test for an open condition through the right front window switch terminals 3 and 5 with the switch in the DOWN position.
  4. Test for an open condition through the right front window switch terminals 2 and 3 with the switch in the UP position.

Did you test an open in any of the above conditions?

Go to Step 10

  1. Test for an open in the YEL or the GRN/YEL wire between the right front window switch and the right front window regulator.
  2. Test for an open in the RED or the RED/BLU wire between the right front window switch and the right front window regulator.

Did you test an open condition?

  2. Backprobe the left rear window switch connector with a test lamp between cavity 3 and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Backprobe the left rear window switch with a test lamp between terminal 1 and ground.
  3. Operate the master window switch to the UP position and observe the test lamp.
  4. Backprobe the left rear window switch with a test lamp between terminal 4 and ground.
  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Backprobe the master window switch with a test lamp between terminal 5 and ground.
  3. Operate the master window switch to the UP position and observe the test lamp.
  4. Backprobe the master window switch with a test lamp between terminal 4 and ground.
  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

  1. Test for an open condition through the left rear window switch terminal 4 and terminal 5 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  2. Test for an open condition through the left rear window switch terminals 1 and 2 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  3. Test for an open condition through the left rear window switch terminal 3 and terminal 5 with the switch in the DOWN position.
  4. Test for an open condition through the left rear window switch terminal 2 and terminal 3 with the switch in the UP position.

Did you test an open in any of the above conditions?

  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

  2. Backprobe the master window switch with a test lamp between terminal 3 and ground.
  3. Operate the master window switch to the UP position and observe the test lamp.

  5. Operate the master window switch to the DOWN position and observe the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate when the master switch is operated to the UP position and to the DOWN position?

  1. Test for an open condition through the right rear window switch terminal 4 and terminal 5 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  2. Test for an open condition through the right rear window switch terminal 1 and terminal 2 with the switch in the NEUTRAL position.
  3. Test for an open condition through the right rear window switch terminal 3 and terminal 5 with the switch in the DOWN position.
  4. Test for an open condition through the right rear window switch terminal 2 and temrinal 3 with the switch in the UP position.
