Possible Cause

Compressor Noise

Resonant compressor noises are not a cause for alarm. However, irregular noises or rattles may indicate broken parts or excessive wear.

    â€¢ The A/C system is overcharged. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
    â€¢ The compressor mounting bolts are not torqued to specification.
    â€¢ The compressor pulley bearing is faulty.
    â€¢ The compressor drive belt is slipping.

Refrigerant Line/Hose Noise

    â€¢ The lines/hoses are grounded. Reposition the A/C lines/hoses.
    â€¢ The lines/hoses are rubbing on other components. Reposition and secure the A/C lines/hoses.

Internal Compressor Noise

    â€¢ A faulty piston shoe
    â€¢ A faulty bearing
    â€¢ A faulty cylinder
    â€¢ A faulty shaft

Replace the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

Compressor Clutch Noise

    â€¢ A faulty compressor clutch. Replace the compressor clutch. Refer to Air Conditioning Clutch Coil Replacement .
    â€¢ A faulty bearing. Replace the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

HVAC Case Noise

    â€¢ Foreign material is in the HVAC case.
    â€¢ The HVAC case is not torqued to specification.
    â€¢ The actuator doors are damaged.
    â€¢ The actuator door seals are damaged.

Blower Motor Noise

    â€¢ Foreign material is on the fan.
    â€¢ The fan blades are damaged.
    â€¢ The blower motor has internal damage.
