Info - Exhaust Gas Recirculating (EGR) Valve Cleaning Prior to Potential Replacement

Subject:Exhaust Gas Recirculating (EGR) Valve Cleaning Prior to Potential Replacement

Models:1999-2000 Chevrolet Tracker
with 2.0L Engine (VIN C -- RPO L34)

This bulletin is being issued to inform dealers to properly and thoroughly clean the exhaust manifold whenever an EGR valve is diagnosed as sticking open or inoperative. Sometimes a cleaning of the exhaust manifold may be sufficient rather than automatically replacing the EGR valve.

In some cases, the EGR valve may have been contaminated because the exhaust manifold was not adequately cleaned, prompting contaminants such as weld slag or drill trailings to remain in the passageway/valve seat.

Simplified cleaning procedures were put in place as an alternative to EGR valve replacement. These cleaning steps are outlined in Corporate Bulletin Number 00-06-04-027.
