The floor pan insulator sheets are composed mainly of an asphalt material. The insulator sheets are designed to perform the following functions:

    • Act as a shield for higher floor pan temperatures
    • Absorb vibration
    • Absorb noise

When servicing a vehicle, it is essential that any insulators that may have been disturbed, removed or replaced be reinstalled in their original sequence and location. If replacement of an insulator is necessary, it should be replaced with material that is the same thickness and size. All insulator materials must meet Vehicle Safety Standard No. 302 for flammability resistance. Refer to Floor Pan Insulator Replacement in Interior Trim.
