Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the IP steering column opening trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Slide the bracket that contains the fuel pump relay and the main
relay from the left front side of the junction block (9).
- Slide the following connectors from the bottom of the junction
block (9):
• | Inline connector C213 (8) |
• | Inline connector C205 (7) |
• | Inline connector C204 (6) |
- Disconnect the following electrical connectors from the front
of the junction block (9):
• | Junction block connector C4 (4) |
• | Junction block connector C5 (5) |
- Remove the 2 nuts (10) that retain the junction
block (9) to the left hinge pillar.
- Remove the nut (3) that retains the junction block (9)
to the bulkhead.
- Remove the junction block (9) from the 3 retaining
studs in order to gain the necessary clearance to disconnect the electrical
connectors from the rear of the junction block (9).
- Separate the connector housing from the junction block (9)
by gently disengaging the retaining tabs (1) at the top of the junction
block (9).
- Disconnect the following
connectors from the rear of the junction block (5):
• | Junction block connector C1 (4) |
• | Junction block connector C2 (3) |
• | Junction block connector C3 (2) |
- Remove the junction block (5) from the vehicle.
- Remove the turn/hazard flasher (1) from the junction block (5),
if necessary.
- Remove the fuses and relays from the front of the junction block (5),
as necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install any fuses and
relays that were removed from the front of the junction block (5)
- Install the turn/hazard flasher (1) to the junction block (5),
if removed.
- Connect the following connectors to the rear of the junction block (5):
• | Junction block connector C1 (4) |
• | Junction block connector C2 (3) |
• | Junction block connector C3 (2) |
- Install the connector
housing to the junction block (9) by engaging the retaining tabs (1)
at the top of the junction block (9).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the junction
block (9) to the 3 retaining studs. Secure the junction block
with the 3 nuts (3,10).
Tighten
Tighten the junction block mounting nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the following electrical connectors to the front of the
junction block (9):
• | Junction block connector C4 (4) |
• | Junction block connector C5 (5) |
- Install the following connectors to the bottom of the junction
block (9):
• | Inline connector C213 (8) |
• | Inline connector C205 (7) |
• | Inline connector C204 (6) |
- Install the bracket that contains the fuel pump relay and the
main relay to the left front side of the junction block (9).
- Install the IP steering column opening trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side
in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
