DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the rear wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Verify that the rear wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.

Do the rear wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor connector. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. place the rear wiper switch to the OFF position.
  4. Connect a test light between cavity 4 of the rear wiper motor connector and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

  1. With the following conditions still present:
  2. • The rear wiper motor connector still disconnected.
    • The rear wiper switch in the OFF position.
    • The ignition in the ON position, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test light between cavity 1 of the rear wiper motor and a known good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Test for an open between cavity 3 and cavity 4 of the wiper/washer switch.

Did you test an open between cavity 3 and cavity 4?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Test for an open between cavity 3 and cavity 5 of the wiper/washer switch.

Did you test an open between cavity 3 and cavity 5?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 10

Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 11

Replace the rear wiper/washer switch. Refer to Rear Window Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Repair the short to voltage in the BLU/GRN wire between cavity 4 of the rear wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 4 of the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to voltage in the ORN wire between cavity 5 of the rear wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 1 of the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
