Verify that the front wipers are always on when the wiper/washer switch is turned to the off position.

Do the front wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the front wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the front wiper switch to the OFF position.
  4. Connect a test light between cavity 1 of the front wiper motor connector and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. With the following conditions still present:
  2. • The front wiper motor connector still disconnected.
    • The front wiper switch turned to the OFF position.
    • The ignition in the ON position, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test light between cavity 4 of the front wiper motor and a known good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. With the following conditions still present:
  2. • The front wiper motor connector still disconnected.
    • The front wiper switch turned to the OFF position.
    • The ignition in the ON position, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test light between cavity 3 of the front wiper motor and a known good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect the front wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Test for an open between cavity 18 and cavity 23 of the wiper/washer switch.

Did you test an open between cavity 18 and cavity 23?

Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the front wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Test for an open between cavity 18 and cavity 6 of the wiper/washer switch.

Did you test an open between cavity 18 and cavity 6?

Go to Step 11

  1. Disconnect the front wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn the wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Test for an open between cavity 18 and cavity 23 of the wiper/washer switch.

Did you test an open between cavity 18 and cavity 23?

Go to Step 13

Replace the front wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Replace the front wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Repair the short to voltage in the BLU/RED wire between cavity 6 of the front wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 4 of the front wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to voltage in the BLU wire between cavity 23 of the front wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 1 of the front wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to voltage in the BLU/WHT wire between cavity 5 of the front wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 3 of the front wiper motor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
