DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the front wipers inoperative in the LO, HI, and INT modes.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Verify that the front wipers are inoperative in all modes.

Do the front wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the front wiper motor connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the front wiper switch to the HI position.
  4. Connect a test light between cavity 4 of the front wiper motor connector and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the front wiper/washer switch connector. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Connect a test light between cavity 18 of the front wiper/washer switch connector and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test for an open between cavity 5 of the front wiper motor and ground.

Did you test an open in the BLK wire?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Repair the BLK wire between cavity 5 of the front wiper motor and ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the front wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Replace the front wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Repair the open in the YEL/BLU wire between cavity 18 of the front wiper/washer switch connector and cavity 8 of connector C3 at the Junction Block. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
