In the manufacturing of brake rotors, tolerances of the braking surfaces for flatness, thickness variations and lateral runout are held very closely. Maintain these close tolerances in order to prevent roughness in braking performance.
Surface finish must also meet specifications. The control of the braking surface finish is necessary in order to avoid pulls and erratic performance, and to extend the lining life.
Maximum scoring depth (rotor surface finish depth) is 0.38 mm (0.015 in). Light scoring of the rotor surfaces that does not exceed specifications will not affect brake operation. This condition may occur with normal use.
