Tools Required

1. UseJ 23327-1 with J 35683 in order to compress the return springs.
2. Remove the spring retainer snap ring.
3. Remove the spring retainers.
4. Remove the springs.

1. Remove the piston with compressed air.
2. Remove the O-rings from the piston.
3. Inspect the sealing surfaces for burrs or imperfections.
4. Repair or replace the piston if necessary.
5. Install new O-rings on the piston.
6. Coat the O-ring with J 36850 or equivalent.
7. Install the piston into the transaxle case.
8. Push the piston into the bore of the transaxle case.

The piston spring seats should face upward.




9. Use J 23327-1 with J 35683 in order to install the piston return spring assembly.
10. Compress the piston return springs in order to allow installation of the snap ring.
11. Push the snap ring into place by using your fingers.
12. Verify that the snap ring is fully seated and centered by the three lugs on the spring retainer.
13. Verify that the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the spring retainer.
