Disassembly Procedure
- Remove the snap ring from the clutch drum.
- Remove the following components:
- Use the J 23327
in order to compress the piston return springs.
- Use a screwdriver in order to remove the snap ring.
- Remove the following components:
- Slide the direct clutch (2) onto the oil pump.
- Apply compressed air to the oil pump in order to remove the piston.
If the piston does not come out completely with the compressed air,
use needle-nose pliers in order to remove the piston.
- Remove the direct clutch from the oil pump.
- Remove the clutch piston O-ring.
- Use the following procedure
in order to inspect the clutch piston:
• | Verify that the check ball is free by shaking the piston. |
• | Verify that the valve does not leak by applying low-pressure compressed
air. |
- Inspect the discs.
Assembly Procedure
- Coat new O-rings with J 36850
or equivalent.
- Install the new O-rings on the piston.
- Press the piston into the drum so that the cup side of the piston
faces up.
Do NOT damage the O-ring.
- Assemble the 18 piston
return springs (1) .
- Install the following components into place:
- Use the J 23327-1
in order to compress the piston return
springs.
- Use the following procedure in order to install the plates, the
discs and the flange:
7.1. | Install the following components in the following order: |
The flat end of the flange must face downward.
Important: Use a screw driver in order to install the snap ring.
Do NOT align the end gap of the snap ring with the spring retainer claw.
- Install the outer snap ring.
Do NOT align the end gap of the snap ring with any of the cutouts.
- Use the J 8001
, J 26900-13
, and compressed air in order to measure the stroke of
the direct clutch.
• | The stroke should measure between 1.11-1.47 mm (0.0437-0.0579 in). |
• | If the stroke does not measure within the specified range, select
a proper flange. |
• | There are two different flange thicknesses: |
- Install the direct clutch onto the oil pump.
- Using J 8001
and J 26900-13
, apply
compressed air into the passage of the oil pump body.
- Verify that the piston moves properly.
- If the piston does not move, disassemble and inspect the piston.
