Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 297349  Size: SH
  1. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  2. Place matchmarks on the steering gear housing, the steering gear boot, and the inner tie rod (1).
  3. Remove the 2 boot clamps and the steering gear boot.
  4. Unstake the inner tie rod washer.
  5. Remove the inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 297349  Size: SH
  1. Install the inner tie rod washer, aligning the washer with the rack grooves.
  2. Install the inner tie rod (1).
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the inner tie rod to 62 N·m (46 lb ft).

  4. Stake the washer.
  5. Important: Ensure the steering rack hole is not clogged with grease. If the hole is clogged the pressure inside the boot will change after it is assembled and the steering wheel is turned.

    Important: Ensure the steering gear boot is not twisted or damaged.

  6. Install the steering gear boot and the 2 boot clamps, aligning the matchmarks.
  7. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
