Turn the ignition to the START position.

Is the Theft indicator flashing?

Does the starter solenoid click?

Did the engine crank and run?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Place the transmission in Park or Neutral.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the TR Sw. parameter in the Transmission data list.

Does the scan tool display Park or Neutral?

  1. Turn the ignition to the START position.
  2. Measure the voltage drop between the B+ terminal of the battery and the crank voltage circuit of the starter solenoid.

Is the voltage drop less than the specified value?

0.5 Volts

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn the ignition to the START position.
  2. Measure the voltage drop between the B+ terminal of the battery and the crank voltage circuit of the PNP switch.

Is the voltage drop less than the specified value?

0.5 Volts

Test the crank voltage circuit of the starter solenoid for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the crank voltage circuit of the PNP switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connection at starter solenoid. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
