J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
  2. •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.0L/5.7L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.5L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 8.1L

  3. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  4. Disconnect the compressor hose assembly at the compressor. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  5. Remove the sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

Important: 

   • Install the sealing washers, keeping the dirt and foreign material from adhering to the sealing surfaces of the washers, the hose block, or the compressor ports.
   • Clean all surfaces with a lint-free rag.
   • DO NOT reuse the sealing washer.
   • DO NOT oil the sealing washers prior to assembly.

  1. Install the sealing washer onto the pilots of suction/discharge block fitting.
  2. Ensure that the washers are flush against the surface of the block fitting.
  3. Install the hose block to the compressor.
  4. Ensure that the sealing washers are seated within the compressor machined surfaces.
  5. Connect the hose assembly to the compressor.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Hold the block in place and hand tighten the attachment bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  9. Evacuate and Recharge the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  10. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A .
  11. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
  12. •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.0L/5.7L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.5L
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 8.1L
