BRAKE CALIPER BOLT CORROSION INSPECT AND REPLACE

Caliper bolt corrosion on the models shown above may prevent calipers from sliding freely. This may cause brake pulsation and/or accelerated lining wear.

Any time calipers are removed for brake work on subject models, the mounting bolts should be inspected. If corrosion is present, these bolts should be replaced. Upon reassembly, with either the original or replacement mounting bolts, the cavity between the bushings should be filled with silicon grease to inhibit further corrosion (Figure 1).

Applicable caliper mounting bolt part numbers are noted below and are available from WDDGM:

Vehicle Model P/N

1980-81 Citation 18002785

1982 Citation, Cavalier and Celebrity 14021016

Silicon grease is available from AC Delco under P/N 179-651.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
