POOR PERFORMANCE/SEVERE MISS CHECK INTAKE MAN. GASK. CLIPS

MODELS: 1987 R, V, G, P WITH 5.0L OR 5.7L (VIN CODES H AND K) TBI ENGINES

Some early produced 5.0L and 5.7L TBI engines were built with stainless steel dips that fit over the intake manifold gasket at the intake ports (Figure No. 1). These clips are used to separate the intake ports. These clips must be reinstalled after any repair that requires the removal of the intake manifold gasket. Failure to reinstall the clips could result in driveability complaints such as poor performance or engine miss. It is also necessary to add a "dab" of RTV sealant, P/N 1052917, or equivalent, to the gasket to head parting line (See Figure No. 1). Clips that are damaged or lost can be replaced by ordering P/N 10074116.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
