Production has recently discontinued the use of the lockwasher which secures the air cleaner adapater to the air horn flange.
On page 6C1-9 on the 1984 propane light duty truck service manual supplement, the lockwasher (No. 6) should be deleted.
To secure the air cleaner adapter to the air horn flange, production is presently using a loctite compound. For service, Loctite 242 (obtain locally) or equivalent should be applied to the threads and the adapter torqued to 6.2 - 7.3 N.m (55-65 in. lbs.).
Should it be necessary to remove the air cleaner hold-down stud from the adapter, a wrench should be used to hold the adapter in place while the stud is removed.
Please make the appropriate changes in your manual.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
