Problem

Action

Leakage is present at the exhaust component joints and the couplings.

Tighten the clamps or the couplings to the specified torque.

The components are improperly installed or misaligned.

  1. Align the components.
  2. Tighten the connections.

The exhaust manifold is cracked or broken.

Replace the manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .

A leak is present between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.

Tighten the nuts and the bolts that secure the manifold to the cylinder head to the specified torque.

The seals or packing are damaged or worn.

Replace the seals or the packing as necessary.

The exhaust pipe heat tube extension is burned or rusted out.

Replace the exhaust pipe heat tube extension as required.

The exhaust pipe is burned or rusted out.

Replace the exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .

The muffler is burned or blown out.

Replace the muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement .

The clamps and/or brackets are broken or loose.

Repair or replace as necessary.
