Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement LP4/L21

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container.

  2. Object Number: 228866  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) releasing locking tab.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor.
  5. Remove the coolant sensor (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 228866  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the ECT sensor (2) to the engine.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant sensor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Connect the electrical connector locking tab to the bracket (1,3).
  4. Install the electrical connector to the ECT sensor (3).
  5. Refill the engine coolant as necessary. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the harness connector.

  2. Object Number: 200351  Size: SH
  3. Remove the coolant sensor (1).
  4. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  2. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant sensor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Install the harness connector.
  4. Check the engine coolant level.
  5. Refill the engine coolant as necessary. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
