A NEW VALVE SPRING MATERIAL ENTERED PRODUCTION IN 1.6L L4 ENGINES ON JULY 25, 1980. THE NEW SPRING IS 1MM LONGER AND THE SPRING SEAT IN THE CYLINDER HEAD IS MACHINED 1MM DEEPER. THE NEW STYLE SPRINGS CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE ENTIRE SPRING BEING PAINTED LIGHT GREEN WITH A SOURCE STRIPE. WHEN SERVICING A 1980 VEHICLE THE COLOR IDENTIFICATION MUST BE OBSERVED TO DETERMINE WHICH SPRING IS REQUIRED FOR SERVICE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE SPRINGS AND CYLINDER HEADS NOT BE MIXED. IDENTIFICATION PLAIN W/STRIPE (OLD SPRING) - PART NO. 360504 IDENTIFICATION LIGHT GREEN W/STRIPE (NEW SPRING) - PART NO. 14032344 ALL 1981 ENGINES HAVE THE LONGER SPRING AND THE LIGHT GREEN COLOR WILL BE PHASED OUT EARLY IN THE 1981 MODEL BUILD.
