Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the driver or passenger front seat. Refer to Seat Replacement .
  2. Remove the lumbar knob and the accouter from the driver's seat (if equipped).
  3. Disconnect the cable from the lumber accouter.

  4. Object Number: 278885  Size: SH
  5. Remove the seat recliner bolts (6).
  6. Remove the seat back pivot bolt (3).
  7. Remove the seat back (1) from the seat cushion (5).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 278885  Size: SH
  1. Install the seat back (1) to the seat cushion (5). If lumbar equipped, route the cable through the seat cushion (5).
  2. Important: Use the cable to duplicate the cable routing in the new cushion.

  3. Apply adhesive to the seat recliner bolts. Use GM adhesive P/N 12345382 or the equivalent.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the seat back pivot bolt (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the seat back pivot bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the seat recliner bolts (6).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the seat recliner bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  9. Connect the cable onto the accouter.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to the screws' fully driven and fully seated position. Do not strip the screws.

  11. Install the lumbar accouter onto the driver's seat lumbar bracket if equipped.
  12. Install the lumbar knob, if equipped.
  13. Install the driver or passenger front seat into vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement .
