Removal Procedure
Important: It is not necessary to remove the weatherstrip retainers if only the
weatherstrip needs service.
- Unlatch and partially lower the folding top.
- Remove the rear rail weatherstrip (4):
• | Pull up the weatherstrip. |
• | Insert a flat-blade tool between the weatherstrip in order to
break the cement bond. |
- Remove the screws (3) from the rear rail weatherstrip retainer (2).
- Pry and break the foam tape cement bond in order to remove the
rear rail weatherstrip retainer (2).
Cleaning and Inspection
- Clean the adhesive from
the rear rail weatherstrip (4) if you are reusing the weatherstrip.
- Clean the adhesive from the rear rail weatherstrip retainer (2).
- Inspect the surface skin of the rear rail weatherstrip (4)
for holes, tears, and breaks.
- Replace the weatherstrip if any of the above conditions exist.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Use retaining screws (3)
in order to install the rear rail weatherstrip retainer (2) to the
rear rail (1).
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m 18 lb in).
- Apply a continuous bead of adhesive (5) to the rear rail
weatherstrip retainer (2).
- Position the weatherstrip (4) to the retainer and the rear
rail.
- Clean any weatherstrip adhesive from the rear rail weatherstrip (4)
that may contact the center rail weatherstrip, and the quarter window glass.
- Raise and latch the folding top. Refer to
Power Folding Top Operation
.
- Inspect the rear rail weatherstrip alignment to center rail weatherstrip,
and the quarter glass upper edge.
