GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Inspect the topstack components for damage before performing any adjustments. Repair the components as necessary. Proceed with the adjustment procedures.

Inspect the following areas in order to correct misalignment if necessary.

    • The power folding top to the header
    • The side rail to the door and the quarter window
    • The header latch striker to the windshield header
    • The power folding top forward and rearward positions.

Verify the proper location of the following components before and/or in conjunction with adjustments to the power folding top.

    • The door
    • The door windows
    • The rear quarter windows

Proper alignment of the power folding top components is necessary in order to ensure proper operation of the topstack.

Header Latch Striker to Receiver Adjustment

Perform the following adjustment procedure if the header latch striker does not properly engage with the header latch receiver:

  1. Raise the power folding top to a suitable working height above the windshield header. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .

  2. Object Number: 521631 Size: SH
  3. Loosen the retaining nuts (3) enough in order ensure the following conditions:
  4. • The striker moves during latching.
    • The nuts do not move when the power folding top is raised in order to access the nuts.
    • Do not tighten the nuts at this time.
  5. Raise the power folding top.
  6. Latch the power folding top to the windshield header.
  7. Release the latch.
  8. Raise the power folding top off of the header.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Tighten the nuts (3).
  11. Tighten
Tighten the nuts (3) to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).

  12. Ensure that the header latch striker (2) drives directly into the header latch receiver.

No. 1 Bow to Header Surface Adjustment

Perform the following adjustment procedure if the No. 1 bow front edge is not flush with the windshield header:

  1. Raise the power folding top to a suitable working height above the windshield header.

  2. Object Number: 521631 Size: SH
  3. Use a grease pencil in order to mark the header latch striker (2) location.
  4. Loosen the nuts (3).
  5. Remove or add the shims (1) to a maximum of 4 shims per side.
  6. Align the header latch striker with the marks.
  7. Tighten the nuts (3) until the nuts are snug.
  8. Do not torque the nuts.

  9. Raise the power folding top.
  10. Latch the power folding top to the windshield header.
  11. Release the latch.
  12. Raise the power folding top off of the header.

  14. Tighten the nuts.
  15. Tighten
Tighten the nuts (3) to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).

  16. Latch the power folding top to the windshield header.
  17. Ensure that the front edge of the No. 1 bow is flush with the windshield header surface.

Side Rail Crown

Perform the following adjustment procedure if the topstack side rails are misaligned and/or not parallel to the upper edge of the door and the quarter window glass:

  1. Unlatch the power folding top from the windshield header. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  2. Retract the power folding top to the half-lowered position. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .

  3. Object Number: 521631 Size: SH
  4. Turn the adjustment screw in one of the following positions:
  5. • Turn the screw in to increase side rail assembly crown.
    • Turn the screw out to decrease the side rail assembly crown.
  6. Raise the top and latch the topstack in the windshield header in order to inspect the alignment of the side rails to the door, and the quarter window glass upper edge.
  7. Repeat the above steps as necessary until the slide rail assembly is parallel to the door and the quarter window glass.
  8. Raise the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  9. Latch the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  10. Observe the header latch striker-to-receiver contact. The striker (2) should enter the receiver enough in order to allow receiver pin engagement without additional help to pull the power folding top down.

Upstop

  1. Remove the quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Unlatch the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  3. Lower the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .

  4. Object Number: 521631 Size: SH
  5. Loosen the jam nut (5), and the lower upstop (6).
  6. Raise the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  7. Latch the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  8. Raise the upstop (6) until the upstop contacts the rear rail.
  9. Unlatch the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .
  10. Lower the power folding top. Refer to Power Folding Top Operation .

  12. Perform the following steps:
  13. 10.1. Raise the upstop (6) and additional ¼-½ turn.
10.2. Tighten the jam nut (5) while holding the upstop (6) in position.

    Tighten
Tighten the jam nut (5) to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  14. Install the quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
