Interior wind noise is not heard while a window is lowered. Interior wind noise is caused by air leaving the inside of the vehicle through a seal or seam.

Complete the following steps in order to locate the source of the wind noise:

  1. Tape off the pressure relief valve(s). This causes air pressure build-up inside the vehicle and enhances the wind noise.
  2. Test drive the vehicle.
  3. Listen for a wind noise whistle.
  4. Temporarily repair the condition using 51 mm (2 in) masking tape.
  5. If you are unable to determine the source of the interior wind noise, perform one or more of the following diagnostic tests:
    • Tracing Powder or Chalk Test
    • Air Pressure Test
    • Soap Suds or Bubble Test

Use an air hose instead of pressurizing the vehicle's interior. Do not exceed 205/207 kPa (30 psi) when using the air hose.

Wind noise leak repairs are similar to water leak repairs. The required procedure depends upon the type of leak you are repairing.

Leaks around the door opening weather-strips do not always indicate a faulty weather-strip. A door or door window adjustment may resolve the condition.
