Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement Chevrolet

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  4. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  5. Remove the end caps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  6. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  7. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
       • Make sure the bag opening points away from you
    When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

  8. Remove the instrument panel SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  9. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  10. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C.
  11. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.

  13. Remove the air distribution ducts (3). Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating and Ventilation.
  14. Remove the steering wheel SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  15. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - tilt.
  16. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  17. Remove the steering wheel column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in steering wheel and column.
  18. Remove the steering wheel multifunction levers. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in steering wheel and column.
  19. Remove the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

  21. Remove the screws (2) from the tie bar (1).
  22. Remove the panel (3) from the tie bar (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 288324  Size: SH
  1. Install the panel (3) to the tie bar (1).
  2. Install the screws (2) to the tie bar (1).
  3. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.
  4. Install the multifunction lever. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in steering wheel and column.
  5. Install the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in steering Wheel and Column.
  6. Install the steering wheel column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in steering wheel and column.
  7. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
       • Make sure the bag opening points away from you
    When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

  9. Install the steering wheel SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  10. Install the air distribution ducts (4). Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating and Ventilation.
  11. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  12. Install the HVAC control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C.
  13. Install the instrument cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  14. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

  18. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  19. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.

Removal Procedure

  6. Remove the accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  7. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C.
  8. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  9. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  10. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module

  13. Remove the air distribution ducts (3). Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement in Heating and Ventilation.
  14. Remove the steering wheel SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  15. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  16. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  17. Remove the steering wheel column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - tilt.
  18. Remove the steering wheel multifunction lever. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  19. Remove the washer lever. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

  21. Remove the screws (4) from the tie bar (2).
  22. Remove the panel (3) from the tie bar (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 288325  Size: SH
  1. Install the panel (3) to the tie bar (2).
  2. Install the screws (4) to the tie bar (2).
  3. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  4. Install the steering wheel column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  5. Install the steering wheel multifunction lever. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  6. Install the washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

  14. Install the IP SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  15. Install the end caps. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  16. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
