Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the screws from the instrument panel compartment door hinge.
  2. Release the instrument panel compartment door pull strap by pressing down and pulling out from the instrument panel.
  3. Remove the instrument panel compartment door from the instrument panel.
  4. Remove the screws from the inner instrument panel compartment door.
  5. Separate the inner and outer doors from the door frame.
  6. Remove the instrument panel compartment door latch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Latch Replacement .
  7. Remove the instrument panel compartment door lock cylinder. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Lock Cylinder Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the instrument panel compartment door lock cylinder. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  2. Install the instrument panel compartment door latch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Door Latch Replacement .
  3. Position the inner and outer doors to the door frame alignment tabs.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the screws to the instrument panel compartment door.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the instrument panel compartment door screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  7. Position the instrument panel compartment door hinge to the instrument panel.
  8. Install the screws to the instrument panel compartment door hinge.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the instrument panel compartment door hinge screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  10. Install the instrument panel compartment door pull strap by positing the pull strap to the slot in the instrument panel and closing the compartment door.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.

  2. Object Number: 607141  Size: SH
  3. Remove the retaining screws (1) from the instrument panel.
  4. Remove the compartment.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Install the retaining screws (1) into the instrument panel. Ensure the unit is retained.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
