Did you perform the Radio/Audio System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the suspect speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Is the vehicle equipped with a audio power amplifier?

Is the right or left side speakers inoperative?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for the service procedure.
  3. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the audio power amplifier speaker connector. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Using two fused jumpers, connect the suspect speaker inputs from the radio to the suspect speaker outputs from the audio power amplifier in order to bypass the audio power amplifier.
  4. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate speaker circuits at the radio connector.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

Test the circuits of the appropriate speaker for an open, short or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the appropriate (right or left) speaker outputs from the audio power amplifier for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Reconnect the radio.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn ON the radio.

Can audio be heard from the suspect speaker?
