Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Buckle the driver's seat belt.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the DRIVER SIDE BELT STATUS parameter in the SIR data list.

Does the scan tool display UNBUCKLED?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Disconnect the seat belt switch.

Does the scan tool display UNBUCKLED?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Unbuckle the driver's seat belt.
  3. Disconnect the seat belt switch.
  4. Test the seat belt switch signal for a short to ground. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 6

Replace the seat belt switch.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 7

Replace the SDM. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
