For 1990-2009 cars only
The lip seals seal the rotating shafts. The lip seals require special treatment. The following components use the lip seals:
| • | The steering gear at the following locations: |
| - | The valve |
| - | The pinion |
| • | The drive shaft of the pump |
When there is a leak in one of these areas, perform the following procedure:
- Inspect the sealing surfaces.
- Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces.
- Replace the seals.
Replace the shaft only if very severe pitting is found. If the corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is slight, clean the surface of the shaft using a crocus cloth. Replace the shaft only if the leakage is not stopped by first smoothing the shaft using the crocus cloth.
