Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 492721  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  3. Remove the brake pipe (2) from the wheel cylinder (1).

  4. Object Number: 171475  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake shoes (17, 29). Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  6. Remove the bolts (8) from the wheel cylinder.
  7. Remove the wheel cylinder (14).
  8. Remove the parking brake cable from the backing plate (11).
  9. Remove the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.

  10. Object Number: 188282  Size: SH
  11. Remove the backing plate (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 188282  Size: SH
  1. Install the backing plate (1).

  2. Object Number: 171475  Size: SH
  3. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  4. Install the parking brake cable to the backing plate (11).
  5. Install the wheel cylinder (14).
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the bolts (8) to the wheel cylinder.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel cylinder bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  9. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 492721  Size: SH
  11. Install the brake pipe (2) to the wheel cylinder (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe nut to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  13. Adjust the rear brake assembly. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
  14. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  15. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  16. Remove the safety stands. Lower the vehicle.
