Fuel Pump Strainer replacement for Steel Tank Only

Removal Procedure

Important: The fuel pump strainer is not serviceable on vehicles with plastic fuel tanks


    Object Number: 61935  Size: SH
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  3. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  4. Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  5. Note the strainer position for future reference.

  6. Object Number: 54511  Size: SH
  7. Support the reservoir with one hand.
  8. Use a screwdriver to pry the strainer ferrule off the reservoir.
  9. Discard the strainer.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61935  Size: SH
  1. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand twisting the strainer into position.
  2. Install the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  3. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  4. Refill the fuel tank.
  5. Inspect for fuel leaks:
  6. 5.1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for two seconds.
    5.2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for ten seconds.
    5.3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    5.4. Check for fuel leaks.
