Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 387259  Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  4. Verify that the gasket is removed with the filter.

  5. Object Number: 387188  Size: SH
  6. Remove the oil filter adapter.
  7. Remove the oil filter bypass valve using a screwdriver or a punch in order to pry the valve out.
  8. Clean the oil filter mounting surface.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the oil filter bypass valve. Seat the valve using a socket of the same diameter and a mallet.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the oil filter adapter.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the oil filter adapter to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Install the filter. Turn the filter ¾-1 complete turn after the gasket contacts the surface of the block. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Top off engine oil.
  8. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
