Some police vehicles equipped with the 5.7L (LM1) engine and gage package (7Z4) having VIN numbers prior to those listed below, may exhibit a false indicated overheat condition on the gage.
VIN numbers which may be affected are those prior to:
Plant Code VIN Number ----- ---- ---------- Clark St. 9 160551 Lakewood A 100139
This condition may be repaired by relocating the gage sensor from its current location in the right hand cylinder head to the left hand cylinder head where the engine "Hot" light switch is currently located. The existing wire to the gage sensor must also be rerouted to the new location. The existing "Hot" light switch may be relocated to the previous gage sensor location as a plug. The current "Hot" light electrical connector should be taped back.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
