SCANNER UPDATE FOR 1986 MODEL YEAR DATA STREAM
The 1986 ECM Data Stream has had several changes incorporated which allows for additional data to be received; however, your scanner will have to be updated for 1986 to enable you to take advantage of these improvements.
Most scanner manufacturers try to contact all the owners of their brand name scanner for the annual update. This is usually done by providing an update request form, such as the one attached from Micro Processor Systems, Inc.(See Figure 1.)
If you have not already updated your scanner for 1986, please arrange to do so by forwarding to the appropriate manufacturer.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
