- Clean all the cover parts
with appropriate solvent. Air dry all the parts.
- Inspect the cover parts for the following conditions: Refer to
Transmission Component Location
.
• | A worn or damaged shift shaft |
• | Smooth movement of the shift shaft in the cover bores |
• | Worn or missing shift fork inserts |
- Inspect the selector plates control surfaces.
- Examine the shift forks
and the synchronizer sleeve mating surfaces.
- Replace worn or damaged cover parts.
- Replace a burred or nicked part that cannot be reconditioned by
hand. Use a soft stone or crocus cloth.
- Inspect the machined mating surfaces for flatness. Check the mating
surfaces with a straight edge.
