Condition

Some customers may comment on a groan/chirp type noise coming from the rear of the vehicle during or near the end of applying the brakes. This condition may be more prevalent during a brake apply when in reverse than when making a forward stop and typically is noted during the first 1500 miles (2400 km) of vehicle operation.

Cause

The rear disc brake lining material may cause a resonance in the rear axle assembly that produces a groan/chirp noise condition.

Correction

Replace the existing rear disc brake pads with P/N 18038575, following the service procedure in the Disc Brakes sub-section of the Service Manual.
