Removal Procedure

    Caution:  When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. Open and support the hood.

    2. Object Number: 318913 Size: MH

    Notice: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

  2. Lift up the retainer clips (6) on the assist rod using a flat-bladed tool.
  3. Remove the assist rod (7) from the hood strut stud (1).
  4. Remove the upper end of the assist rod (7) from the ball joint on the hood (5).
  5. Remove the lower end of the assist rod from the ball joint on the lower hood hinge.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 318913 Size: MH
  1. Install the upper end of the assist rod (7) onto the ball joint (5).
  2. Install the lower end of the assist rod (7) onto the ball joint (1) on the lower hood hinge.
  3. Remove the support from the hood.
  4. Close the hood.
