Did you review the system operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  2. Turn the radio on.

Does the subwoofer operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACCY position.
  2. Turn the radio on.
  3. Insert a cassette or compact disc from J 39916-A .
  4. Set the radio balance and fade controls to the detent (center) position.
  5. Set the radio volume at the normal listening level.
  6. Play the combination test tone from the cassette or CD.
  7. Backprobe with a DMM between terminal A and terminal B of the inoperative speaker.

Does the meter reading vary above the specified value?

> 3V AC

Inspect for and repair a poor connection at the speaker. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair a poor connection?

Replace the speaker . Refer to Speaker Replacement .

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the amplifier connector.
  3. Probe the amplifier connector between the speaker output (+) circuit and the speaker output (-) circuit of the inoperative speaker with a DMM. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

2-4ohms

Inspect the speaker output circuit and the speaker output circuit for a short to battery voltage or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair a short?

Inspect for and repair a poor connection at the amplifier. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement .

Inspect for and repair a poor connection at the speaker. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open in the speaker output (+) circuit or the speaker output (-) circuit between the speaker and the amplifier. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
