Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 290386  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Use a #30 TORX® driver, or the equivalent, in order to loosen the fasteners (4) from the back of the steering wheel (1).
  3. Remove the inflatable restraint module (3) from the steering wheel (1).
  4. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling, Shipping, and Scrapping .

  5. Object Number: 396124  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) from the electrical connector (1) of the inflatable restraint module coil.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the back of the steering wheel module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the electrical connector (1) to the back of the steering wheel module.
  2. Install the CPA to the electrical connector (1).

  3. Object Number: 290386  Size: SH

    Important: Verify that the wiring is not exposed or trapped between the inflatable restraint module and the steering wheel.

  4. Position the inflatable restraint module to the steering wheel.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the fasteners (4) to the back of the steering wheel (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2.8 N·m (25 lb in).

  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
