CAMARO CONVERTIBLE TOP DIFFICULT TO LATCH

CAMARO CONVERTIBLE TOP DIFFICULT TO LATCH TO WINDSHIELD HEADER (REPAIR PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-88 CAMARO -----------------

Some 1987-88 Camaro Convertible tops may be difficult to latch to the windshield header because the side roof rail may not be properly engage into the isolator clip.

Inspect - (Figure 1)

- The rear end engagement of the side roof rail (2) into the isolator clip (1) on the rear roof rail bow.

- If the side roof rail (2) does not engage into the isolator clip (1) completely the top auger latches will not align to the windshield header receivers.

To correct the clip engagement condition relocate the isolator clip (1).

Remove and Disconnect

1. Lower convertible top halfway.

2. Using a 1/8" (3.2mm) drill bit, drill out the rivets securing the isolator clip (1) to the rear roof rail bow (Right and Left Sides).

3. Isolator clip (1) from bows.

Install and Connect

4. In the isolator clip (1) (View B) drill a hole with a 1/8" drill bit as shown.

5. Position isolator clips (1) to the side roof rail (2) end and mark the location of the new hole on the side rails.

6. Using a 1/8" drill but make a hole where marked on the side rail.

7. Rivet (3) a 1/8" x 1/2" aluminum rivet, isolator clip(s) to side rail(s).

Inspect

8. Raise top to windshield header to see that:

- Side rails are engaging into the rear roof rail bow.

- Top auger latches align to the windshield header receivers
