SPECIAL POLICY: LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL OMITTED

General Motors has determined that certain 1987 Chevrolet Camaro models ordered with a limited slip differential (Option G80) were not assembled with this option. The option was listed on the vehicle price label and dealers were invoiced for the cost of this option.

Special Policy Adjustment

To correct this condition, original owners of record will be contacted and offered a choice of the following:

A. $200.00 total reinbursement covering the list price cost of this option ($100.00) plus a $100.00 adjustment incentive.

OR

B. Installation of a limited slip differential at no charge.

When the customer requests reimbursement, they MUST sign and date the Option Selection form included as part of the owner letter (extra copies to be reproduced locally, if needed). The signed form and a copy of the check issued to the owner is to be attached to the dealer's file copy of the request within thirty (30) days after dealer credit is received, and retained for twenty-four (24) months from date of credit.

Unsold units in dealer stock are to have a limited slip differential installed prior to sale according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

This Special Policy Adjustment will remain in effect for one year from the date on the owner letter (copy attached) with no mileage restriction.

This special Policy Adjustment Bulletin should be filed in the three-ring binder furnished to the dealer by General Motors.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1987 Chevrolet Camaro models equipped with 5.OL engine (RPO LB9, VIN Cade F), 2.73:1 axle (RPO GU2), aluminum rear brake drums (RPO J42), and limited slip differential (RPO GSO) and built within the following VIN breakpoints:

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Original owners of record will be notified of this special policy adjustment by Chevrolet Motor Division,(see copy of owner letter included with this bulletin).

PARTS INFORMATION

When required, parts are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). To insure that these parts are obtained as soon as possible, they should be ordered on a C.I.O. order with no special instruction code, but on advise code (2).

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Ring and Pinion Gears will be reused; do not remove or disturb pinion gear installation.

2. Remove differential carrier and replace with Auburn Limited Slip unit, (P/N 14092154). Refer to 1987 Chevrolet Camaro Shop Manual (ST-368-87)M section 4B for removal/installation instructions.

3. Fill differential with SAE 8OW or SAE BOW-90 GL-5 Gear Lubricant. Friction modifier is not required in this application.

4. Correct Axle Identification Code located on upper front quadrant of right hand axle tube about 3 inches outboard of carrier by changing third character from "D" to "E" by stamping "E" over "D" location, (see illustration). ENSURE THAT AXLE

Dear Chevrolet Owner:

General Motors has determined that certain 1987 Chevrolet Camaro models ordered with a limited slip differential (Option GSO) were produced without this option. This option (G80) was listed on the vehicle price label and dealers were invoiced for the cost of this option.

Special Policy Adjustment

To correct this condition, Chevrolet Motor Division is offering original owners of involved vehicles a choice of the following:

A. $200.00 total reimbursement, covering the list price cost of this option ($100.00) plus $100.00 for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

OR

B. Installation of a limited slip differential at no charge to you.

This special policy adjustment will remain in effect for a period of one (1) year from the date of this letter with no mileage restrictions.

What You Should Do

Contact your Chevrolet dealer to request reimbursement or make arrangements to have a limited slip differential installed at no charge to you, whichever option you choose. Please complete and sign the Option Selection Form below and present it to your Chevrolet dealer as notification of your choice.

NOTE: THE 1987 CAMARO SHOP MANUAL (ST-368-87) INCORRECTLY IDENTIFIES LIMITED SLIP AXLE CODE (WITH ALUMINUM BRAKE DRUMS) AS 4HD IN THE AXLE CODE CHART ON PART 4B-19. PLEASE MAKE NOTE THAT THE CORRECT CODE FOR THIS APPLICATION IS 4HE.

WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

Submit a warranty claim for credit with the information indicated below:

** The "Parts Allowance" should be the sum total of the current GMSPO Dealer Net price plus 30% of all parts required for repair.

*** The "Net Amount" for operation T1248 represents the cost (plus 30%) of differential lubricant used when installing a limited slip differential unit. The "Net Amount" for operation T1249 represents the list price cost of option G80 limited slip differ ential plus $100.00 incentive when reimbursement is issued.

NOTE: Customer must sign and date the Option Selection Form included as part of the owner letter, (extra copies to be reproduced locally, as needed). The signed form and a copy of the check issued, if applicable, is to be attached to the dealers file copy of the request within thirty (30) days after dealer credit is received and retained for 24 months from date of credit.

Dealers will automatically receive the correct labor and material allowance based on the labor operation performed.
