DEFINITION: The DELAY mode is inoperative or operates at the ON speed, and the wiper does not park.

Did you review the Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Operate the rear wiper/washer system in all the switch positions.

Does the rear wiper/washer system operate normally?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor module switch input connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the rear wiper washer switch delay/on signal circuit terminal in the harness connector to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the DELAY position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

With the test lamp connected as in the previous step, turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the on position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp from the rear wiper washer switch off/delay signal circuit terminal to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

With the test lamp connected as in the previous step, turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the DELAY position.

  1. Reconnect the rear wiper motor module switch input connector.
  2. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.

  4. Using a test lamp backprobe from the wiper motor park switch reference voltage circuit terminal B in the wiper motor connector to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Operate the rear wiper in any mode.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF while the wiper arm is in the up position.
  3. Disconnect the wiper motor connector.
  4. Test the resistance through the wiper motor park switch from the reference voltage circuit terminal B to the signal circuit terminal E.

Is the resistance within the specified values?

0-2ohms

Test the delay/on signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the off/delay signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the off/delay signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
