Tools Required
J 39400-A Halogen
Leak Detector
Important: The filter, ACDelco P/N 15-1760 must be installed to the A/C evaporator
tube (liquid line) between the condenser and the evaporator. The installation
of this in-line filter eliminates the need for flushing the A/C system.
- Recover the A/C refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the right front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
Important: Immediately cap or tape the open end of the condenser and evaporator
line in order to prevent contamination of the A/C system.
- Remove the evaporator line bolt at the condenser fitting. It may be
necessary to turn the wheel all of the way to the right.
Important: The ACDelco P/N 15-1760 will have an orifice contained in it.
- Remove and discard the orifice tube. Refer to
Expansion (Orifice) Tube Replacement
.
- Make 2 marks 38 mm
(1½ in) apart on the liquid line (1), approximately 50 mm
(2 in) from the first line hanger and after the black foam
line insulation.
Important: Do not allow metal burrs to drop into the liquid line.
- Use a line cutter in order to cut the liquid line at the marked position (1).
Remove any burrs.
- Connect the evaporator line at the condenser fitting.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the
evaporator hose bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the evaporator hose bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Remove the following components from the A/C refrigerant filter:
Important: Do NOT install the O-rings at this step.
- Push the nuts and the ferrules over each of the liquid line halves.
Install the ferrules with the small end toward the nut.
- Install the liquid line into the A/C refrigerant filter. Ensure
to bottom out the liquid line.
- While holding the liquid line bottomed out in the A/C refrigerant
filter, tighten the nuts securely.
- Disassemble the A/C refrigerant filter from the liquid line.
- Lubricate the O-rings with clean 525 viscosity refrigerant
oil.
- Install the O-rings onto the liquid line.
- Install the liquid line into the A/C refrigerant filter. Ensure
to bottom out the liquid line.
- While holding the liquid line bottomed out in A/C refrigerant
filter, tighten the nuts securely.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts (2) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A
.
- Install the right front fender liner. Refer to
Front Fender Liner Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
