Some 1983 and 1984 Devilles and Broughams equipped with THM 200-4R model transmissions or Eldorados and Sevilles equipped with THM 325-4L model transmissions may experience a harsh 1-2 upshift condition. This harsh 1-2 upshift condition may be caused by the second clutch check ball (#8) peening the second clutch apply oil hole on the spacer plate. For location of the second clutch apply oil hole on the spacer plate, refer to Figure 1 for the 200-4R and Figure 2 for the 325-4L. To correct this condition, replace the valve body to spacer plate gasket, spacer plate to case gasket and spacer plate. Refer to the parts list for correct part numbers for all applications.
For warranty purposes, use labor Operation No. K6560 at .9 hour for Deville and Brougham series vehicles or .7 hour for Eldorado and Seville series vehicles.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
