Radiator Replacement LH2 Standard Cooling

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  4. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  5. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle from the radiator.
  9. Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Remove the transmission oil cooler (TOC) mounting bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Object Number: 1335240  Size: SH
  13. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  14. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  15. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.

  18. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  19. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  20. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  21. Disconnect the upper air baffle retaining pins from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper air baffle retaining pins to the radiator.
  3. Install the radiator support brackets.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  5. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the surge tank inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  8. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  9. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  10. Object Number: 1335240  Size: SH
  11. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the TOC mounting bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Connect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle to the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  17. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).


    Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  19. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  21. Install the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  22. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Replacement LH2 Heavy Duty Cooling

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  4. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  5. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  6. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle from the radiator.
  9. Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Remove the transmission oil cooler (TOC) mounting bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  13. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  15. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.

  18. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  19. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  20. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  21. Disconnect the upper air baffle retaining pins from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper air baffle retaining pins to the radiator.
  3. Install the radiator support brackets.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  5. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the surge tank inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  8. Object Number: 1364956  Size: SH
  9. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  10. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  11. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the TOC mounting bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Connect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle to the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  17. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).


    Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  19. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  21. Install the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  22. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Replacement LY7 Standard Cooling

Tools Required

    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers
    • J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  5. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  6. Object Number: 1349583  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper condenser mounting bolts.

  8. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH

    Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  9. Remove the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  10. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the lower retainer pins of the side air baffle from the radiator.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  14. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  15. Use J 38778 to remove the radiator/condenser upper support.

  16. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  17. Use J 38185 to disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator. Reposition the hose aside.

  18. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  19. Using J 38185 disengage tension on the radiator inlet hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the radiator.
  20. Using J 38185 disengage tension on the radiator outlet hose clamp and disconnect the hose from the radiator.
  21. Disconnect the upper retainer pins on the side air baffle from the radiator.
  22. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper retainer pins of the side air baffle to the radiator.
  3. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  5. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  6. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the hose clamp to secure the hose.
  8. Install the radiator/condenser upper support.
  9. Install the radiator support brackets.
  10. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  11. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  13. Raise and support the vehicle.

  15. Connect the lower retainer pins of the side air baffle to the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1350217  Size: SH
  17. Install the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).


    Object Number: 1349583  Size: SH
  19. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).


    Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  21. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N·m (48 lb in).

  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Install the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  25. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Replacement LC3

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Remove the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 1379896  Size: SH
  4. Remove the condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement.

  5. Object Number: 1704897  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle from the radiator.
  7. Important: Reposition the condenser to access the transmission oil cooler mounting bolts.

  8. Remove the transmission oil cooler (TOC) mounting bolts.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 1335240  Size: SH
  11. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.

  12. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  13. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  14. Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  15. Use J 38185 to disengage the tension on the hose clamp. Remove the surge tank inlet hose from the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  17. Remove the radiator support bracket bolts.
  18. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  19. Disconnect the upper air baffle retaining pins from the radiator.
  20. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator.
  2. Connect the upper air baffle retaining pins to the radiator.
  3. Install the radiator support brackets.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1334986  Size: SH
  5. Install the radiator support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1334989  Size: SH
  7. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the surge tank inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  8. Object Number: 1334988  Size: SH
  9. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator inlet hose clamp to secure the hose.

  10. Object Number: 1335240  Size: SH
  11. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator. Use J 38185 to position the radiator outlet hose clamp to secure the hose.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle.
  13. Install the TOC mounting bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  15. Connect the lower retaining pins of the side air baffle to the radiator.

  16. Object Number: 1349581  Size: SH
  17. Install the condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement.
  18. Install the electric cooling fan. Refer to Engine Cooling Fan Replacement .
  19. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
