Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement With Adjustable Pedals

1. Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .



2. Remove the steering column support bracket to brake booster mounting plate mounting nut (1).
3. Without disconnecting the park brake cable, remove and reposition the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
4. Without disconnecting the steering column from the intermediate shaft, lower the steering column assembly and support the column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .



5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake apply sensor (BAS) (6).
6. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) from the adjustable brake pedal motor.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the adjustable brake pedal position sensor.
8. Disconnect the adjustable accelerator pedal wiring harness (2) from the adjustable brake pedal bracket.



9. Remove the 3 brake pedal assembly to cowl mounting nuts (1).



10. Remove the 2 steering column support bracket to I/P carrier mounting nuts (2).
11. Remove the 3 brake pedal assembly to I/P carrier mounting nuts (1).



12. Remove the brake booster mounting plate (1) from the cowl. This will remove the studs to allow for brake pedal removal.



13. Remove the steering column support bracket (1).



14. Carefully squeeze the collar of the adjustable accelerator pedal cable and disconnect the accelerator pedal cable from the adjustable brake pedal motor.
15. Remove the brake pedal assembly from the vehicle.

Important: Ensure that the adjustable accelerator pedal and adjustable brake pedal are synchronized in the full forward, front of vehicle position.

Important: Do not exceed 0.5 N·m (4.43 lb in) of torque.

1. Synchronize the accelerator pedal to the full forward position. Using an adjustable wrench on the adjustable cable end, slowly rotate the cable to move the pedal to the full forward, front of vehicle position.
2. Remove the adjustable wrench from the cable.
3. Synchronize the brake pedal to the full forward position. Install a square drive tool into the adjustable brake pedal motor and carefully rotate the motor to move the pedal to the full forward, front of vehicle position.
4. Remove the square drive tool.
5. Install the adjustable brake pedal assembly to the vehicle.



6. Carefully reconnect the adjustable accelerator pedal cable (5) to the adjustable brake pedal motor. Ensure that adjustable brake pedal cable retainer is locked into place by carefully pulling on the cable.



7. Install the steering column support bracket (1).



8. Install the vacuum brake booster mounting plate (1) to the cowl and brake pedal assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




9. Install the 3 brake pedal assembly to cowl mounting nuts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




10. Install the 3 brake pedal assembly to I/P carrier mounting nuts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




11. Install the steering column support bracket to brake booster mounting plate mounting nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




12. Install the 2 steering column support bracket to I/P carrier mounting nuts (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




13. Reconnect the electrical connector to the adjustable brake pedal position sensor (1).
14. Reconnect the adjustable accelerator pedal electrical harness (2) to the adjustable brake pedal bracket.
15. Reconnect the electrical connector (4) to the adjustable brake pedal motor.
16. Connect the electrical connector to the BAS (6).
17. Reposition and secure the steering column assembly. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
18. Reposition and secure the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement .
19. Install the vacuum brake booster. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement .
20. Perform the adjustable pedal calibration. Refer to Adjustable Pedal System Calibration .
